Frostfall is a 44 track score for one winter biome in a fantasy game, gone deep rather than wide: the first snow, the white road, the tundra by day and by night, the aurora, a frontier hold, a trapper's camp, a village of ice fishers, the frozen lake, the pine forest, the glacier and the high pass, the blizzard and the whiteout, the ice cave, the crystal grotto and the frozen depths, the frost giants' hall, the Winter Queen's palace, a battle set and three bosses, the long night and the thaw, and the cues a game fires all day.

Frozen, then thawed. Every one of the 38 full pieces opens on the album's theme FROZEN: the first thing the lead plays is the 5 note theme at exactly twice its written length, over a glass voice alone. Pad and bass arrive with the loop, and the second half of every loop closes on the same theme at its own speed. The opening plays once and the loop starts after it, so a game hears the frozen statement when the music starts and the thawed one every time it loops. Checked note by note on the shipped MIDI: 38 of 38 full pieces open frozen and 38 of 38 close on the theme. Run the same check over the other 30 albums in this studio's catalogue, 1018 full pieces: only one opens on one of their own themes at twice its length, and no album does it on every piece.

One theme, every track. Every one of the 44 tracks states that theme in its own shape, counted by the harness in the finished MIDI. 5 more themes sit beside it: one for the open land, one for the storm and the fight, one that is the theme itself turned upside down for the caves and the long night, one for the frost giants and one for the settlements and the thaw.

A glass voice in every track. One of five glass instruments plays the colour part of all 44 tracks: celesta on 10, tubular bells on 10, vibraphone on 9, crystal on 8 and music box on 7. In every full piece it sounds under the frozen opening and through the second half of the loop, and rests in the first half so the place's own theme is heard clearly. Measured in the MIDI.

What is in it. 38 full pieces and 6 short cues, 53:59 of music, 9 in Aeolian, 9 in Lydian, 7 in Dorian, 6 in Phrygian, 5 in Ionian, 4 in Mixolydian and 4 in harmonic minor, 35 tracks in 4/4, 7 in 3/4 and 2 in 2/4. The White North: Frostfall, The First Snow, The White Road, The Tundra, The Tundra at Night and Under the Aurora. The settlements: The Frontier Hold, The Hold by Lamplight, The Trapper's Camp, The Ice Fishers, The Fur Traders, The Longhouse Fire and The Shrine of the Pale Mother. The land: The Frozen Lake, The Pine Forest, The Snowbound Wood, The Glacier, The High Pass, The Blizzard and Whiteout. The deep ice: The Ice Cave, The Crystal Grotto, The Frozen Depths, The Drowned Ice Temple, The Frost Giants' Hall and The Winter Queen's Palace. The fights: Wolves in the Snow, The Ice Wraiths, The Last Stand in the Snow, The Frost Giant, The Ice Wyrm and The Winter Queen. The long night and the thaw: Those the Cold Took, The Long Night, The First Thaw, Meltwater, The Spring Returns and The White North. Cues: The Hunt Is Won, Lost to the Cold, Warmer Blood, A Cache in the Ice, By the Brazier and The Hold's Horns.

What you get. 44 OGG files, 38 of them with sample accurate LOOPSTART and LOOPLENGTH tags, which is what RPG Maker MV and MZ read. 44 editable .mid sources. A Readme with per engine import notes, the proof reports, and a royalty free commercial licence.

One family of 6 themes. Frostfall, Hoarfrost, Whiteout, Rime, Jotun and Hearthsong. Frostfall leaps up a fifth and falls back in three steps; Hoarfrost climbs three steps for the open land; Whiteout zigzags down for the storm and the fight; Rime is Frostfall turned upside down and slowed, for the ice caves and the long night; Jotun leaps a fourth twice for the frost giants; Hearthsong opens with a falling step for the settlements and the thaw. 1885 statements and fragments of those themes across the album, counted by the harness in the finished MIDI.

Gate results. 788 theory checks and 510 audio checks, 0 failed, and the reports ship inside the download. They say the music is correctly written, rendered and tagged. They are not a claim about taste, which is what the free tracks are for.

Three full tracks are free on this page, with their MIDI: Frostfall, the title theme, The Frozen Lake, a field in Lydian, and The Frost Giant, the boss. Open any of them and compare the lead's first five notes with the five that close the loop.

An honest note. The renders are a General MIDI reference render through a conventional soundfont, so the glass instruments, choirs and brass are the General MIDI sounds of those names; load the MIDI into your own instruments to replace them. The composition system is AI written code and no generative audio model is used anywhere.
