The Turning Sky - An Open World Music Pack, Day and Night - 44 Tracks
A downloadable asset pack
The Turning Sky is a 44 track exploration score for open world games, built in pairs. Twelve places, each written twice: once in daylight and once after dark. Both halves of a pair share a tonic and state the same melodic cell. What changes is everything that is not the tune: the mode darkens, the tempo drops, the melody moves down and passes to a different instrument played softer, and the texture thins.
Why pairs. An open world field is walked at noon and at midnight, and the player is meant to know it is the same field. Here the night version of a place is its day version in a different light, so switching at nightfall keeps the same tonic and the same tune.
Checked on the shipped MIDI, not asserted. For all 12 pairs, a check that reads the finished .mid files confirms that both halves state the pair's cell, the night half is slower, its melody sits lower on average and is played softer, and it has fewer notes. That second part matters: sharing a tune is trivially true of one track shipped twice under two names, so the check also requires the night half to differ in exactly the ways described here. You can confirm any pair yourself by opening the day and night .mid side by side.
What is in it. Twelve places, each by day and by night: The Open Field, The Deep Wood, The Long Shore, The River Road, The High Heath, The Mountain Road, The Wide Marsh, The Old Walls, The Upper Ridge, The Drowned Fen, The Whole Country and Out on the Water. A title theme and an overworld piece, six weather tracks (rain, a squall, fog, morning mist, a downpour and a cloudburst), a camp theme, a map screen theme and a daybreak. 9 short cues: A New Region, Something Out There, A Place to Stop, Found It, The Far Marker, Picked Up, Further Than Yesterday, Made It Through, Caught Out. 35 full pieces in all, 53:10 of music.
What is not in it. This is an exploration record. It has no town, battle, boss or dungeon tracks. If you need those in the same voice, the studio's other scores cover them.
What you get. 44 OGG files, 35 of them with sample accurate LOOPSTART and LOOPLENGTH tags, which is what RPG Maker MV and MZ read. 44 editable .mid sources, so you can re-voice, re-tempo or lift a single line. A Readme with the full pair table and per engine import notes, both proof reports, and a royalty free commercial licence.
One family of 5 cells. Sky, Ground, Path, Hollow, Ember. One seed and four things done to it: Sky climbs to a fifth above its first note. Ground is Sky turned upside down and is the shared cell of six of the twelve places. Path is Sky with its first leap pulled in to a step, for travel. Hollow climbs and then falls below where it began, and carries the weather and the night. Ember never turns back down, and after the title theme it is held back until track 23. 1316 statements and fragments of those cells across the album, counted by the harness in the finished MIDI.
Gate results. 782 theory checks and 501 audio checks, 0 failed, and both reports ship inside the download. Key membership, resolving progressions, voice leading, instrument range, melodic singability, loop seam continuity, no clipping, loop tags read back out of the shipped bytes. Those numbers say the music is correctly written, rendered and tagged. They are not a claim about taste, which is what the free pair is for.
Two full tracks are free on this page, with their MIDI: The Open Field and The Field After Dark. They are one place at both ends of the day, which is the whole album in two files.
The renders are a General MIDI reference render through a conventional soundfont. The composition system is AI written code and no generative audio model is used anywhere.
