Ashen Realm - A Soulslike Music Pack - 44 Tracks

Ashen Realm is a 44 track soulslike score for games: a kingdom gone to ash, its roads and ruins, its cathedral and its barrows, nine fights from a common battle to the final boss, and one bonfire. Every full piece is written the way the genre scores its spaces: long near silence, then a swell or an eruption, then back to the quiet.

Every track is mastered to the same overall loudness, so this is not a record of quiet tracks and loud tracks: each full piece carries its own quiet and its own loud inside the part that loops. Measured on the shipped OGG between its LOOPSTART and LOOPSTART + LOOPLENGTH tags, bar by bar, the loudest bar of every one of the 35 full pieces is at least 28 dB louder than its quietest bar (the swings run from 28.3 to 37.5 dB), and the quietest bar never drops below -60 dB, so the quiet is music and not a gap. We measured the 706 looping pieces of our earlier albums the same way: their median swing is 8.2 dB and none of them reaches 28.

One family of 5 cells, from the bonfire. Kindle, Ash, Hollow, Knell, Wrath. Kindle is the bonfire: it climbs a third, steps back and climbs to end a fourth higher. Ash is Kindle upside down, and it is the whole ruined world. Hollow sighs a step down before it reaches up a third. Knell falls a third twice in a row, for the holy places and the buried ones. Wrath opens a fifth straight down and climbs back, and every fight on the record opens on it. 1085 statements and fragments of those cells across the album, counted by the harness in the finished MIDI.
