Horror Manor - PSX Survival Horror Music Pack - 42 Tracks
A downloadable asset pack
One house. One lullaby. 42 tracks. Somewhere upstairs there is a music box, and the tune it plays is five notes long: a child's rock down a third and back, then one step up onto the wrong note and home. Every room in this score is built from those five notes. The halls fall down them, the thing in the walls knocks them, the oratory chants them, and the one warm room left plays them with the wrong note put right.
The wrong note is a rule, not a mood. Every room, corridor, chase and ambient bed is written in a mode where that step up is a semitone. The safe room, the discovery, the epilogue and the final cue are the only tracks in a mode where it is a whole tone, so nothing is wrong there. The Readme lists the key and mode of all 42 tracks, so you can check that for yourself.
Written for a whole survival horror game, not one screen. The foyer, the long gallery, the library, the nursery, the cellar, the attic and the night garden get three pieces each; the oratory and the thing in the walls get two. There is a chase at three speeds (132, 148 and 164 BPM), two safe room themes, a discovery, a title theme, an epilogue, six ambient beds for the long quiet stretches, and three cues: an alert, a defeat and the lock giving way.
The ensemble is the late 90s sampled kind a console survival horror score was built from: a music box, a detuned upright, harpsichord, grand piano, a parlour harmonium, bowed and plucked strings, a few winds, a horn, two choirs and four synth pads for the beds. 31 instruments across the record, and no drum kit anywhere.
What you get
- 42 × .ogg: OGG Vorbis, 44.1 kHz stereo, 62:46 of music in total
- 42 × .mid: the real editable sources, one file per track, every part named
- Sample accurate loops: 39 tracks carry LOOPSTART and LOOPLENGTH in the OGG Vorbis comments, in samples, which RPG Maker MV and MZ read with no plugin. The Readme has the full table for Godot, Unity and GameMaker. The three cues are one shots on purpose, because a stinger that loops is a bug in your game.
- The proofs: 758 theory checks and 495 audio checks, 0 failed, shipped in the download
- Royalty free in games, commercial use included, no attribution required
About the sound, stated plainly. "PSX era" describes the writing and the ensemble, not the hardware. The .ogg files are rendered from the MIDI through a General MIDI soundfont (GeneralUser GS, whose licence permits selling recordings made with it). They are not an emulation of the console's sound chip, and no bit crushing or sample rate reduction is applied. If you want them crunchier, the .mid files are yours to run through your own sampler.
Hear it before you buy it. Two full tracks with their MIDI are free on this page: The Music Box, the lullaby at home in the nursery, and Run, the chase at its middle speed, the same five notes hammered into a knock. If you cannot hear that those are the same shape, do not buy the other 40.
What is not claimed. The 1,253 checks establish that every track is correctly written, rendered and tagged. They are not a claim about taste. The composition system is AI written code; the themes are written note by note in its source and developed by that code, then rendered through a conventional synth. No generative audio model is used anywhere.
