Dramatis Personae - JRPG Character Theme Music Pack - 50 Tracks
A downloadable asset pack
Twelve people, twelve five note themes, 50 tracks. Most music packs sell places: a town, a cave, a battle. This one sells the cast. Each of twelve characters (the Hero, the Rival, the Healer, the Knight, the Rogue, the Mage, the Princess, the Mentor, the Usurper, the Jester, the Ranger and the Lost One) owns one five note cell that is theirs and nobody else's. No two cells are the same, and no inversion, retrograde or contraction of one cell is another's.
Each theme in the four forms a game actually cues. The theme itself, for the scene where they matter. A battle version, the same five notes driven over a pulsing ostinato (the usurper's is the boss fight and the rival's is a duel). A memory, the same five notes on a music box, slow, for a flashback. And an entrance stinger. That is 48 tracks, four for each character, and every one of a character's tracks is written from that character's cell and no other.
Built to be quoted, and quoted here. The title theme states six of the cells in turn. The finale states all twelve, and twice sets two at once: the usurper's cell in the counter line under the lost one, then under the hero. The .mid files let you do the same in your own tracks.
The ensemble is a chamber orchestra with a music box: trumpet, horn, trombone and a brass section; flute, oboe, english horn, clarinet, bassoon and ocarina; violin, viola, cello, bass and a string section; harp, harpsichord, nylon guitar, marimba, vibraphone and the music box; two choirs, a soft pad and timpani. 28 instruments across the record, and no drum kit anywhere; the pulse of every fight is carried by pizzicato, timpani and a driving bass.
What you get
- 50 × .ogg: OGG Vorbis, 44.1 kHz stereo, 52:55 of music in total
- 50 × .mid: the real editable sources, one file per track, every part named
- Sample accurate loops: 38 tracks carry LOOPSTART and LOOPLENGTH in the OGG Vorbis comments, in samples, which RPG Maker MV and MZ read with no plugin. The Readme has the full table for Godot, Unity and GameMaker. The twelve entrance stingers are one shots on purpose.
- The proofs: 884 theory checks and 564 audio checks, 0 failed, shipped in the download
- Royalty free in games, commercial use included, no attribution required
About the sound, stated plainly. "JRPG" describes the writing and the ensemble. The .ogg files are rendered from the MIDI through a General MIDI soundfont (GeneralUser GS, whose licence permits selling recordings made with it); they are not a console sound chip. The .mid files are yours to run through your own sampler.
Hear it before you buy it. Two full tracks with their MIDI are free on this page: The Hero, the hero's five notes heard alone on the trumpet and then developed, and The Hero Draws Steel, the same five notes driven at 148 bpm. If you cannot hear that those are one person, do not buy the other 48.
What is not claimed. The 1,448 checks establish that every track is correctly written, rendered and tagged. They are not a claim about taste. The composition system is AI written code; the twelve cells are written note by note in its source and developed by that code, then rendered through a conventional synth. No generative audio model is used anywhere.
