Raiment - Characters That Draw Their Own Bodies And Everything They Wear
A downloadable asset pack
Raiment draws the whole person. Hand it a build, a pose, a skin, a head of hair and a list of worn items, and it returns the geometry for a dressed figure: a torso with a waist and a pelvis, arms that follow the pose, garments whose folds are computed from the drape over that particular body, armour built as the construction it actually is, and a material treatment on every surface.
Equip something and the figure is re-drawn, not re-layered. A coat over a broad build is a different set of points from the same coat over a slight one.
Every image on this page was rendered by the code you are buying, in engine, by a script that ships with the package. There is no sprite sheet, no atlas and no PNG anywhere in it.
What is in the box
- 9 cloth families - tunic, robe, coat, trousers, skirt, cloak, hood, apron, sash. Each is a cut and a drape behaviour, not a picture.
- 6 armour families across 23 piece constructions - plate with a fauld and tassets, mail that hangs and scallops at the hem, scale, brigandine, laced lamellar, boiled leather.
- 30 materials, each a five-stop ramp at absolute lightness plus a surface character - weave, twill, nap, sheen, quilt, ring, scale, rivet, tooling, wear. Linen and cotton sit close in tone and are nothing alike.
- 5 builds, 5 poses, 8 hair styles, 8 archetypes.
- 450 distinct outfits and 2,250 figures before pose, hair, skin or layering.
Three things a sprite sheet cannot do
1. The garment is computed from the body. Every garment panel is sampled through the figure's own width at each height, so change the build and the hem, the fullness and every fold move with it.
2. Equipping is a model, not a draw order. One item per slot, each family declaring the layer band it occupies, and anything mostly hidden stops drawing its detail. Putting a coat on takes the old coat off, because that is what equipping means.
3. A whole crowd from one string. rai_cast("thornbury", 24) gives twenty-four people, each with their own build, pose, wardrobe, materials and hair. The same string always gives the same village. Adding a person does not change anybody already there.
Compatibility
- GameMaker 2024.14 and later. Built and gated against runtime
2024.14.4.268. - 18 resources - 14 script assets, two fonts, one demo object, one demo room. Import through Tools → Import Local Package.
- Everything is
rai_-prefixed, so nothing here can collide with your own names. It declares five globals, allrai_-prefixed, and three of them are documented knobs you are meant to set. - Raw, readable GML. Nothing is minified and every public script carries a header block.
- A runnable demo room ships with it - open
rm_rai_demo, press Play, and cycle families, materials, armour, builds and poses on the keyboard.
Tested, honestly
GML cannot be unit-tested outside the engine, so this package tests itself inside it. 1,666 assertions run on a real Igor-built executable. The shipped package is then installed into a blank GameMaker project and driven by a harness written from the Readme and nothing else - 70 assertions - plus an adversarial pass of 406 attacks (misspelled ids, empty and enormous inputs, degenerate rectangles, a 375-combination sweep) with nothing crashing.
What that proves and what it does not: it proves the geometry is well-formed and that a buyer's first hour will not hit a wall. It does not prove the picture is good - several defects in this package's history passed every assertion and were found only by rendering a sheet and looking at it. Those assertions exist now because of it.
Licence
Use it in unlimited games, commercial or free, forever. Modify the source however you like. Everything it draws for your game is yours, with no attribution required and no revenue share. You may not resell or redistribute the package itself.
Code and graphics were produced with AI assistance; this is declared in the AI disclosure above. No image model was involved at any point - every pixel on this page is drawn by the GML in the package.

Effigy — NPC portraits draws the face for the figure this one dresses. Effigy generates the portrait from a character's properties; Raiment generates the whole body and everything on it.
