Chokepoint — Tower Defense Lane Command
A downloadable asset pack
132 sounds for tower defense, lane strategy and autobattlers — built as a state language, not a bag of impacts.
A tower defense player learns the lane by ear. They need to know a placement was refused, a tower reached tier 4, and an enemy leaked, without ever looking away from the lane. Chokepoint is built for exactly that: every cue is designed to be told apart from the cues it sits next to.
The escalation ladders are the point, and they are proven
One action in this genre fires thousands of times, so eight of the slots here are not single cues but ordered ramps: tower upgrade tier, kill bounty, wave incoming, tower charge, projectile impact, enemy leak, construction cost, and threat level.
A gate re-derives all 35 adjacent steps from the shipped audio and refuses the pack unless every rung clears the one below it by at least 8% in spectral centroid, or 12% in duration, and unless every ladder spans at least 1.5× end to end. On the first render it refused six steps. The synthesis recipes were rewritten until the audio actually escalated. The thresholds were not touched.
The enemy leak ladder runs downward on purpose. It is the genre's one unmistakable bad-news cue, and it gets darker, heavier and longer as lives run out, so the last life sounds like the bottom of something you have been falling down all match.
One place, ten objects
Everything you hear is a stone redoubt at a mountain pass: oak palisade timber, banded iron, a brass command panel, tensioned hemp, lead shot, a copper alarm bell, a rangefinder lens. Ten hand-authored materials through ten recipe gestures and one shared room, which is what makes 132 files sound like one product instead of a download folder. Measured inner loudness range across the whole pack: 0.07 dB.
What is covered
- Placement — valid, invalid, pick up, rotate (the pair a player learns in ten seconds)
- Upgrades and building — five tiers, five build costs
- Economy — bounty by enemy value, sell, refund, passive income, insufficient funds
- Targeting — first, last, strongest, closest, each distinguishable from the others
- Waves — incoming bell by wave number, cleared, perfect clear, boss horn, countdown
- Combat — projectile impact across six armour classes, tower charge across five weights
- Failure — the leak ladder, defeat
- Tempo and panel — speed up, normal, pause, resume, menus, hover, confirm, cancel
- Four seamless beds — the calm pass, engines under tension, a wave in progress, the boss
The details that matter at import time
- .wav and .ogg, 264 files. 16-bit 44.1 kHz mono.
- 40 variation sets — separate renders, not pitch-shifted copies. Every set spans at least 15% in length, so a repeated action never machine-guns.
- 4 seamless loops, built by circular filtering rather than crossfading. Loop points are written into the .wav as a smpl chunk and into the .ogg as LOOPSTART/LOOPLENGTH tags.
- Only files ending _loop loop, and every loopable file ends _loop — checked mechanically in both directions, so filtering your import by _loop is safe.
- A naming manifest listing every file, its measured duration and what it is for.
- Per-engine import notes for Unity, Godot, Unreal, GameMaker and web.
- pack_proof.json — a sha256 and a full measurement record for every single file, so you can verify what you downloaded.
Licence
Royalty free. Commercial use. No attribution required.
Use these in any number of commercial and non-commercial games, on any platform, forever. Modify them freely. The only thing you may not do is resell or redistribute the pack itself as a sound library. A copy-paste credit line is in the readme if you would like to credit it anyway.
Try it first — the demo is a real subset
The free download is 34 of the 132 sounds, including the entire upgrade ladder (all five tiers, all three takes each). That is the claim this pack is sold on, so it is the part you get to check before paying. Also in the demo: the placement pair, both ends of the leak and bounty ladders, one full ambience bed with its loop points, and the two cues a wave ends on.
Honest about what this is
These are synthetic sounds, computed from oscillators, filters and modal resonators in code. That is why the licence is clean and why the pack is coherent — and it is the aesthetic: a designed, stylised set, not a field recording library. The proof file certifies there is no measurable defect. It cannot tell you the pack sounds good to you. That is what the free demo is for.
